Principal's Desk - From the desk of Mrs. Amelia Davis

************

Welcome to the second term of the 2003-2004 school year, Tri-Cities High School students, parents/guardians, and community! As we begin the second term of the school year, I want to provide updates about our school.

***GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS***

Tri-Cities High School received two very special honors during the 2002-2003 school year. On May 1, the College Board, the group responsible for advanced placement classes and the SAT programs, presented Tri-Cites High School with its Inspiration Award as one of the most improved high schools in the United States. This honor is based on increased academic improvements during the past five years. The Georgia Department of Education named Tri-Cities High School a 2003 School of Excellence. This honor is the result of a written application and a site visit.
Our 2003-2004 GHSGT Writing scores reflect an increase! With 88% of all students passing the writing section, our students have increased seven percentage points from the previous year.

*** COMMUNICATIONS COMMUNICATIONS***

Parent Connect
ParentConnect permits parents/guardians to have access to information about their child’s attendance, grades, homework assignments, and discipline records. ParentConnect is designed to enhance communications between school and home.

Tri-Cities High School now has the capacity to provide parents an opportunity to access student information on-line. We are introducing ParentConnect, a new software program that will allow parents to view the attendance, discipline, and grades earned for their child.
If you have Internet capability, and are interested in having such direct access, you can begin the process by pre-registering on-line.

If you do not have personal access to the Internet, a computer in the Media Center has been designated for ParentConnect parents. Simply go to the website at http://tricitiespc.fultonschools.org. Click on "register" and enter the data requested. When you have completed the form, click "submit."
(You can click on the button above for a direct link)

In-Touch Auto-Dialer System
Parent/Guardian, Tri-Cities High School is using the In-Touch Auto-Dialer System to notify you of a student’s absence from one or more classes during the school day and to make announcements about school events. In order for you to take advantage of this technology, the school must have your correct home telephone number. To make corrections of your telephone number, please call the Guidance Department at 404-669-8210 or Mr. Gregory Middleton by e-mail at middletong@fulton.k12.us.ga.

Student Handbook/Agenda
The Tri-Cities Student Handbook or Agenda is the official pass for students. It is also a tool to help students become better organized, set goals, evaluate their progress and manage their time. The Agenda is also a resource tool that contains valuable information about math, chemistry language arts, and other subjects. A copy of the first 32 pages of the Agenda is available at http://www.tri-citieshs.com/.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Four by Four (4x4) Block Scheduling
During the 2003-2004 school year we will continue the four ninety-minute blocks of instructional time during the school day. Our main objective is improving student achievement. In addition, one advantage of the 4x4 block is the increased opportunities for student to earn up to eight units per year as opposed to six units with the traditional six-period- a -day schedule.

Cisco Academy
We are beginning our third year with the implementation of Cisco Academy. In collaboration with Cisco Systems, students at Tri-Cities may enroll in computer /Internet classes that will train them to seek careers in information systems immediately after graduation from high school.

ZAP- ZEROES AREN’T PERMITTED
If students have not completed assignments, the teacher may refer the student to ZAP which provides the student with another opportunity to complete the assignment. ZAP meets in the Media Center from 4:00-6:00 on every Friday, expect the Friday before a school holiday. At this time the student may complete the assignment he/she failed to complete. This is an alternative to receiving a zero for an assignment.

SCHOOL SAFETY SCHOOL SAFETY SCHOOL SAFETY

Book Bags
In our quest to provide the safest environment possible for our students and staff, Tri-Cities requires students to carry only clear book bags in the classroom. These may be purchased in the Main Office (see Mrs. Brinkley) for $10.00.

PROCEDURES TO CHECK STUDENTS OUT OF SCHOOL

To check out a student, a picture ID of the parent/guardian who is listed on school records, as a person with whom the student may leave campus must be presented. Once the picture ID is presented and checked against school records, the parent/guardian signs a check- out form, and the student is released to that person.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL

Before 7:30 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m., adequate supervision is not available for students who are not in a supervised, adult-sponsored activity on the campus of Tri-Cities. Please assist us in keeping your child safe by not allowing your child to arrive on campus before 7:30 A.M. and not allowing your child to remain on campus after 4:30 P.M. Thank you for keeping our students safe!

The 2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR

As we begin our second term 2003-2004 school year, we have enrolled over 2000 students. We look forward to increasing student achievement by using the four by four block schedule. We are excited about the academic possibilities this innovation affords our students and teachers. The faculty and staff have worked very hard to focus on ways to increase and enhance the academic achievement of all of our students. “We believe all students can learn and must take an active and responsible role in the learning process.”

With your correct home phone number, we will keep you informed about your child’s absences from school and progress in school. Regular attendance is crucial to academic success. Help your child to be successful in the world of school and work by establishing good attendance patterns.

Parents/guardians, community members, please do all you can to support the mission of Tri-Cities High School.

“TOGETHER…NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.”
We have so many great things going on at Tri-Cities. Take a moment to visit our "WHAT'S NEW" page.
